Burmese arrested with heroin in Indo-Burma border
23 July 2005: Young Mizo Association (YMA) and Police apprehended a Burmese with heroin 30 grams in Champhai district, Mizoram state, on July 19.
The members of YMA (Champhai branch) and Police raided the resident of one Mr. Khupdothanga (age about 45) of Zion Block, Champhai on July 19 evening and seized 30 grams of heroin.
Khupdothanga, a Burma citizen was now detained in Champhai jail and had been produced to Champhai court on July 20. The district magistrate had pronounced no sentence as this report has been received.
Khupdothang a, have been staying in Mizoram for almost 20 years and is married.
Similarly, Burmese police forces from No. (2) Rih Township on May 3 seized Mr. Tlawnglianceu from Kalamyo town in Sagaing Division, Burma along with 30 grams of heroin and on June 25 R.K. Chunga (age 33) with 30 grams of contraband at Tio river.
The Champhai YMA branch seized drugs worth Rs. 10,000,000 smuggled from Burma since Central Young Mizo Association announce anti-drug war earlier this year, according to YMA official.
A heap of drugs including 842.42 grams of heroin, 9441.07 kgs of ganja and 53 kgs of Ephedrine held by the Central Custom and Excise of Mizoram Division were torched near Tuirin River on July 22. KNG
