Hydro electric power construction comes to halt due to rain

9 July 2005: The Hydro Power Project under construction by the Military tactical II at Thi Coeng village near Bungtla, the largest water fall in Chin State come to a brute halt due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The Tactical II Commander, Col. San Aung Led a team of Engineers in the construction of the Hydro Power at Thi Coeng village, about fourteen miles from Matupi town, southern Chin state.

 

An anonymous man from Matupi told our reporter, "Due to heavy rain roads are damaged and the construction materials for the Hydro project could not be transported to the site and they have to halt the construction."

 

This project was started in January 2005 and is estimated to supply 600 megawatt of electricity but is currently halted in the month of June and is likely to be resume in the month of October or November.

 

A man from Pha Neng village told our reporter that Col.San Aung reportedly told the people that the electricity from the project will be supply to the road from Matupi to Pha Neng , but not the civilian. The power project was constructed for the military camp in Matupi LIB- 304, the Tactical II headquarters and the military camp in Pha Neng LIB -104 only.

 

Some of the construction materials had been transported to the site while some were stocked at the foot ball field of Pha Neng. Col. San Aung reportedly claimed that the project would be completed in the month of April or March 2006.

 

The land of Mr. Thal Zawm, Mr. Maung Hla, Mr. Lian No, Mr. Tawng Shwe, a total of about six acres and some fields of Pha Neng village had been allegedly confiscated by the military authority without a compensations.

 

Hydroelectric power plant had been constructed in Falam town, Tlangzarh village, and Var River. The Tlang zarh hydro plant supply electricity to Hakha and Than Tlang  town, The Var River hydro plant supplies Falam. With the new plant near Bungtla, Chin state would have four Hydro Electricity Power Plants. KNG
