Indian Police arrested Burmese and repatriated to Indo-Burma
15 July 2005: Mizoram Police today repatriates thirty-six Burmese immigrants at around 9:00 am (IST), including two-democracy activist, in Indo-Burma border from Aizawl, Mizoram state, India.
The two democracy activists are Maung Phone from ABSDF (All Burmese Student Democratic Front) and Tun Yi from NLD (National League for Democracy). The other repatriates are mostly manual workers and wayside vendors.
A reliable source informs Khonumthung that thirty-four Burmese immigrants and two democracy activists have been arrested and locked up by the Aizawl Police on Wednesday. Three Aizawl Police stations launch a drive against Burmese immigrant in urban area simultaneously and pick up thirty-six inopportune from their work places and market.
The Aizawl post today flash that Champhai police detained four Burmese for illegal settlement and will be produce in court today. Meanwhile, several! Burmese immigrants were detained in Saiha and the rural area of Aizawl.
Some of the detainees were repatriated while some were fined Rupees 100 to 200 and released. Another source from Indo-Burma Border told Khonumthung that the Burma Military authority refused to accept the repatriated Burmese immigrants but those who could produce Identity card.
The operation launch against Burmese immigrants had been initiated from 3rd July, as the Home Ministry of India ordered the closing of Indo-Burma border gates and withdraw inner line permit to Burmese immigrants. KNG
