Final warning from MAP to quit camp Vectoria

6 June 2005: The Mizoram Arm Police (MAP) set Wednesday as the deadline for the Chin National Front (CNF) to vacate it's headquarter, Camp Victoria or be flushed out.

The warning of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Saiha to the CNF to vacate its Camp is flash this morning in" The Moonlight" a local newspaper based in Saiha.

Quoted as Mr. Paul Sitha saying, the in- charge of the information and publicity department of CNF reportedly opined that it is directly to the agreements and relationship of the two countries- India and Burma.

"Whenever there is more dialogue between the two states. There is more pressure upon us. The Saiha SP told us that a derect order came from the Central Government to let the CNF vacate its camp and we (Security Force) could not avoid this order" said Mr. Paul Sitha.

He Continues" We received this information in the month of April and the latest information a military operation to flush out the CNA in the month of June".

Victoria camp was not set with an intention to make it a permanent base for CNF. It was a mobile camp, which could be shifted anytime according to the security situation of the place, added Mr. Paul.

Meanwhile, regarding the 300 AK 47 assault rifles (Belgium made) received by the MAP an 3rd June from the Central Government of India, the Information and Publicity Department in-charge opined, "Their arms may not be meant for shooting Camp Victoria but for the new recruit of MAP. It may be just a coincidental for the Mizoram Government to received an order to let the CNF vacate its headquarters and a cash of assault rifles for the newly recruited MAP.

Regarding the relationship between the Government of Mizoram and the CNF, the In- charge said" The CNF never done anything against the laws of Mizoram or interfere in its politics so as to keep the Government in the verge to flushes us out. Therefore, I never have the opinion that the government of Mizoram will be against us" He continues ,"In this matter, the government of Mizoram have the good will to approach the central Government to reconsider this order".

This operation to flush out the CNF from its Camp is in the process of materializing the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) signed between the delegates of India and Burma government in previous year, when the head of State Peace and Development Council(SPDC), Senior General Than Shew visited in India. In the MOU the two countries agreed to have a joint military operation and flushed out the military operating along the Indo-Burma border.

In the second week of May, the Government of India sanctioned 4 core rupees for the construction of custom station in Rih village, Burma side and Zokhawthar's land and Custom Office in India. This urgent military operation to flush out the CNF is believed to be strengthening the law and order situation in these areas.

The relationship of India and CNF skirmishes before 1999 as the India security force suspects the CNF to have relation with the North-east India insurgents. The India army and MAP often jointly launched operation against CNF. Mr. Sang Hlun, Late Vice President and private Thawng Mang had been captured and died in the custody of the India army. The CNF had a clear- cut policy not to interfere in the internal politics of India and have connection with the dissidents groups of India, since 1999.

The Assam Rifle had launched an operation to flush out the CNF again in 2002. Now, the Central Government of India pressured Government of Mizoram to let the CNF vacate its Camp. This is the second time that the central government pressured the government of India to let the CNF vacate its Camp since 1999. KNG
