Indian authority repatriated 36 Burmese; Including eight CNC

30 June 2005: Indian Authority repatriated thirty-six Burmese nationals, including eight members of the Chin National Confederation at Zote village, Tio River, on the 25th of June 2005.

The imprisoned twenty eight Burma citizens, apprehended by the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) on 19th for allegedly involving in selling and consuming local wine from Rangvamual, approximately seven kilometers from Aizawl, and the eight members of the CNC, including the Vice President on 12th were shifted from Aizawl Central jail to Champhai Police station.

 

After detention in the Champhai Police lock up for two days, six Assam Rifles and six Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) personnel's repatriated them to Burma, report a man (name with held) who participated in the repatriation. The repatriated Burmese were transported with the Central jail truck till Tio River.

 

The man continued," We were so panicked that they may hand over us to the Burmese army, for the Burmese army will surely kill us all. So, we prayed from Champhai to Tio River in the truck and cried bitterly. There was no one who did not cried that day."

 

The repatriating party reportedly reached Zokhuathar on the 25th at 9:00 P.M. A Burmese soldier came with motorbike and requested the Indian authority to hand over the Burmese citizens and had beer and wine with the Indian security personnel's. However, all the prisoners were taken back to Champhai at around 2:00 A.M. in the morning.

 

Two juvenile of 16 and 17 ages happened to be among the repatriated prisoners, who were defended by a lady jail guard as under age for imprisonment in the Aizawl jail. "There was no questioning or examination, even in the court but entry of names list." said one juvenile.

 

The juveniles told our reporter, " While we were in the verge of being hand over to the Burma authority but were taken back to Champhai by the MAP, we were so grateful to them; we even considered as Saviors, our mood changed, we were all overwhelm with joy."

 

Four visitors were also apprehended along with the CNC, only eight of them were real members of the party said another prisoner. Confirmation on the reliability of this report could not be establish as this news is being prepare, as no CNC could be contacted.

 

Khonumthung received a report that Mr. V.L Chama Hnamte, the Secretary of Champhai YMA and his colleagues went all the way to Zokhuathar at 11:00 P.M. and requested the MAP and the AR not to repatriate the prisoners. Mr. Zama said," They (prisoners) will die at the hand of the Burma army; it does not mean that I am supporting the CNC but they are Mizo too, our flesh and blood; I do not want their death. I want to save many lives and did this, I will do this thing always in the future also." The Indian security repatriated the prisoners to the place where there was no Burma soldier or the repatriated prisoners had already returned to Aizawl.

 

Since last year MOU between India and Burma, the Indian authority handed over three CNC members to the Burma army and repatriated thirty-six Burma citizens and cracked the headquarters of the Chin National Army. KNG
