17 June 2005: About 15 villages in the Indo-Burma border of northern Chin state will probably hold a meeting to discuss on how to stop the Chin National Confederation (CNC); a report has been received.
An elder of one order village (name with held for security reason) informs our reporter that the Village Council Members and Village Elders of the villages of Tedim and Falam Township, including the new Rih Township, intend to have a joint meeting this month or July to draw strategic plans on how to stop the Chin National Confederation.
The village elder said," The CNC collect taxes from the villagers regularly. They are not real political activists but a problem to the villagers. A meeting will be organized on the strategies how to prevent their entry in our areas.
Discussion had been held once in 25 May in connection to this issue." The Indo-Burma villages of Falam Township Sur Bung, Sa Ek, Siallam, Satawm, Cawng Hoih, Khua Pui Chip, Vangva, Tih Bual, Dawih Khel and Lei Let had a meeting in this matter.
The second meeting is tentative to be jointly held with the Haimual area of Tedim Township. Cooperation on how to oppose the CNC is proposed to be work out. " If the CNC come, the villagers will oppose them with all our capacities, even request the aid of the Government authority. But if they avoid us, we will do nothing against them." added the village elder.
This meeting in the strategies to stop the CNC was organized independently by the village council members and the village elders. There was no objection from the SPDC local authorities.
The village authorities and the elders did not obtain the permission of the local SPDC authority as being the practice. The village elder said, "The SPDC authority have the knowledge of this meeting. They did not necessarily asked to give report even after the meeting."
The CNC was formed in 1999. Recently the Mizoram Security forces apprehend the Vice President and eleven other members of the organization. The army commander of the organization was reportedly apprehended in Champhai with seven other members of the organization. Three of the apprehended members were charged with foreigner case and repatriated to the Burmese authority. KNG
