WLC' s first anti-drug campaign in Aizawl
21 June 2005: Women League of Chinland organized its first Anti-Drug Campaign in Aizawl at its Head Office.
In commemoration of the 60th birthday of the National League for Democracy leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, with a prayer the pro-democracy groups of Burma settling in Aizawl and Mizoram NGO's, about twenty attendants, had a function on Anti-Drugs campaign.
Mr. Tial Khal, the expresident of CNC prayed for the release of the house arrested Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, for her health and her freedom to work freely for NLD and the country.
In a free discussion session, the WLC Coordinator, Miss Cheery, said, "We have no intention to launch a forceful campaign against drugs trafficking but impart moral awareness to the people from Burma".
Mr. Hawla, the Secretary of Zo Re-unification Organization, who attends the anti-drugs campaign, in appreciating the Women organization activity said, " The Zo descendents faced numerous problems because of drugs. The Zo people were scattered in three countries Bangladesh, Burma and India".
Mr. Hawla added,"We prohibited drugs, seized this much, and reduced to this much such report is not a total prohibition. Public awareness campaign through churches and social organizations and through education of the people; is the only mean to be successful in prohibiting drugs".
Pi Sangpui, president of All Burma Democratic Lushai Women Organization, released a pamphlet commemorating the anti-drugs campaign. The pamphlet denounced the SPDC as the major producer of drugs in the world, the Human Right violation in Chin state, the hardship of the people of Chin state in Mizoram and the problems evolving among women and children in drugs trafficking".
The anti-drugs campaign started by 12:40 P.M.(IST) and the program ends by 3:00 P.M. This anti-drug campaign is the first time ever being organized for the people from Chin state in Aizawl.
The Women League of Chinland was formed in 2004. The organization was formed jointly formed by the various organizations of the women from Chin state, such as Central Chin Women Organization, Chin Women Union, All Burma Democratic Lushai Women Organization, Matu Women Union, Zomi Women Union, Mara Women Association, Khumi Women Advancement Organization, Chin Women Organization and Zotung Women Development Network.
