Zomi Revolutionary Army Denied Its Involvement In Motor Commandeer
7 June 2005: The Zomi Revolutionary Army strongly denied its involvement in commandeering two vehicles, as reported by various daily papers of Mizoram, in Manipur-Mizoram states border.
"It was a joint groups of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and the Zomi Revolutionary Front (ZRF) cadres commanded by Captain Siam Thian Mang @ Marcos. They were heading Sinzawl to assault the ZRF outpost near the village." said Cit Naing, the ZRA spoke person.
According to Mizoram local papers, 20-armed ZRA commandeered a TATA Sumo(write the number) and TATA 407 (write the number). The vehicles were sent back to KhawKawn village later. Shattered windshield of the TATA 407 had been reported.
Ko Cit Naing added," They (UNLF and ZRF) were apparently worried that their appearance may leak out to the ZRA of the Mizoram Armed police (MAP) and pull out." The Champhai Additional Superintendent of Police Laldawngliana reportedly informed the local papers that the rebels were armed with AK 47 automatic rifles and were trying to storm the police outpost at N.E. Khawdungsei and the camp of the splinter ZRA group inside Manipur state boundary but abstained from their plan.
The 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion of N.E. Khawdungsei and a Police team under Ngopa OC rushed to the Manipur-Mizoram border as soon as they received the report of motor hijacking. However, armed group had reportedly crossed the border over to Manipur.
The ZRA was formed in 1995 in Indo-Burma border area. It is the armed wing of the Zomi Re-unification Organization, a political organization of the Zomi community championing for Self-determination and Re-unification.
Meanwhile, the ZRF is formed out of the ZRA dissidents in April 2005. The organization is reportedly having a good link with the outlaw UNLF. KNG
