Burglary attempt on Chin refugee home in Malaysia

19 August 2006: Five burglars attempted to burgle a Chin refugee’s residence in Malaysia last week.

Reports reaching here said that burglars tried to break into a three roomed rented house of a Chin refugee in Kalang valley, Salangor State, Malaysia in the wee hours of August 12. A Malaysian neighbour alerted the police and the robbers reportedly escaped before the police could round them up.

The burglars also reportedly attempted to molest five Chin women staying in the house. The timely arrival of the police saved them from molestation.

One of the burglars was rounded up from the Kalang valley neighborhood. He was beaten up but the whereabouts of the apprehended burglar is not known when this report was being prepared.

The burglars took Burmese and Chin Video Compact Discs (VCD) and the offering of Matu Christian Fellowship. The burglars have not yet been identified. It is not known whether they were Malaysians or refugees from Burma.

Malaysian authorities claimed that Kalang valley is a region infested by miscreants. Around 400 Chin refugees are believed to have settled in this valley. - KNG
