Major Hla Oo, Second Commander of LIB (304), and his troops arrested U Nang Mang for suspected connection with the CNA on July 15 last year. He was forced to serve the Myanmar Army. On January 23 this year while working in an army camp in Kachin state, Myanmar , he managed to escape to Chin State.

"I was taken to the army camp of LIB (304) stationed in Matupi town at around 9 p.m. My hands were tied and I was locked up in the camp. They didn't give me any food that night.  But the next morning the commander came and told me that if I joined the army I would be spared punishment. I agreed to join the army as I was afraid of being killed," Nang Mang told Khonumthung News.

Nang Mang was sent to the army recruitment center No (2) in Shew Bo, Sagaing Division.  Then he was trained at the tactical training center in Kachin state near the China border. Eventually, he was transferred to LIB (384) stationed in Sa Maw township in Kachin state.  

"During the training period one of our officers kept hitting me in the face till I bled as punishment for taking a wrong turning while marching. Since then my hearing has been impaired on the right. One day, I was asked to check up for diarrhea at the army clinic. But when I arrived at the clinic, the trainer beat me three times with a shovel on the waist and thigh," U Nang Mang said describing the hardship he faced during military training.

He ran away from the army camp in Kachin state on January 23, 2007 to Chin state one evening on the plea of watching a video outside the camp.

He arrived in Chin state, and to evade arrest and came to the Indo-Myanmar border on July 13. – KNG.
