Burmese women hold exchange programme in Mizoram
March 13, 2007: An exchange programme for women was conducted by the association of Burmese women in Mizoram near the Indo-Burma on International Women’s Day.
The programme was jointly organized by WLC (Women’s League of Chinland), WRWAB (Western Region Women’s Association of Burma) and other members of various women’s organization as well as workers totaling 20 members.
Mrs Mangcin of the Centre Chin Women’s Organization (CCWO) said "We, women are used to facing violence everyday. Some are not able to express and talk about their problems. So now we are trying to express boldly our physical and mental trauma.
One of the delegates said “This kind of exchange is very beneficial for us. We can express our feelings in this exchange programme by way of warm friendship and understanding each and everyone.
It is learnt that the exchange programme will be organized once a month as of the International Women’s Day.
The members of women’s association under WRWAB and WLC attended the exchange programme. The members talked about their experiences about violence and they decided to have discussions between relatives, husbands and other women to find out more about their suffering. -KNG
