Acres of crop destroyed by rain in Kalay

May 26, 2007: Acres and acres of agricultural produce such as rice, peas, maize among other crops have been destroyed by long spells of rain in Kalay town, Sagaing Division Myanmar.

The rains which started from May 9 and continues till today inundated the crop. Lots of vegetables over acres were destroyed, a local in Tahan said.

The rain caused floods which destroyed vegetables in western Kalay town. Sunflower, tomatoes and other vegetables were damaged near Tahan. Local people are at a loss and anxious.

Vegetable prices as a consequence have gone up in the markets of Tahan and Kalay town. While the floods destroyed vegetables in the area it has not caused human casualties.

Last year also floods destroyed vegetables in Kalay town. The government did not come forward to help the local people even though they suffered from food shortage. – KNG.
