Four motorcycle peddlers arrested in Mizoram

November 28, 2007 - Four Burmese motorcycle peddlers were snatched by Young Mizo Association's members while they were trying to smuggle two wheelers from Mizoram state, India to Burma yesterday.

YMA members from Khawbung village in Mizoram lead by Village Council head Pu F. Zothanmawia arrested the four Burmese along with three India made Pulsar motorcycles on their way from Aizawl, capital of Mizoram to the Indo-Burma border. They were suspected to have stolen the two wheelers from Aizawl, according to a local newspaper 'Vanglaini'.

The four Burmese bike peddlers were identified as Dalkhena (35), Liannang, Ngindo Nang and Langa.

The arrested Burmese claimed that they bought the motorcycles from Aizawl for Rs. 30,000 per two wheeler and said they had not stolen any of them.

YMA members also found 30,000 Kyat (Burma currency) and over Rs. 20,000 in cash on them.

The market price of a Pulsar motorbike in Mizoram is over Rs. 60,000.

It is also known that motorcycles are often stolen in Aizawl.

The Pulsar motorcycle engine can be reused as boat engine in Burma. The engine can also be resold at a price of Rs. 200,000 in Burma, according to Burmese in Mizoram. – Khonumthung.
