Chin Christians pray for peace in Burma
October 8, 2007 - Over 5, 000 Chins belonging to the Christian community in Chin state, Burma held a prayer meeting for genuine peace and stability in Burma from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. (Burma standard time) yesterday.
The prayer meet was organised by the Baptist Christian Association in Hakha, capital of Chin state. Congregations from 49 churches from villages in Hakha Township also held prayer meetings the same day for a change in Burma.
"We prayed to God to stop the violence in Burma and bring about national reconciliation by peaceful means," a local who participated in the mass prayer said.
"We also prayed for the families of victims who were killed in the crackdown by the Burmese regime during the anti-junta protests across Burma. We prayed to God to guide students so they can walk on the right path," he said.
"We have not yet got any report of similar prayer meetings by Christians from other towns in Chin state," he added.
Those involved in the prayer meeting believe that God can do everything that human beings cannot, a local said.
Christians in Chin state promised to continue the prayer meetings in the coming weekend. – Khonumthung.
