Chins in India support protests in Burma
October 1, 2007 - Over 600 Burmese today held a rally organized by the Chin community near the Parliament in New Delhi extending support to the ongoing demonstrations in Burma and condemning the junta for killing and arresting monks and protesters.

They demanded the immediate release of two elected Chin Members of Parliament Pu Cin Sian Thang and Pu Thawn Kho Thang and other political prisoners including Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
"We want the protests in Burma to continue. At the same time, we want to see more and more Chin nationals in Burma joining the on going protests against the Burmese regime," Steven Suan Mang from Zomi National Congress in exile said.
The demonstrators shouted slogans like 'the general ( referring to General Aung San, father of democracy leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi, an architect of Burma's independence from British rule in 1948) trained the soldiers not for killing people, We want: democracy and human rights, Military rule: Down! Down! Release: Aung San Suu Kyi,' on the streets of New Delhi.
In a press release of Chin community in New Delhi today urged the Indian government not to look at its economic interest in Burma but to support the people's movement for democratic transition in Burma.
Chins in New Delhi also requested Asean, EU, UN and international communities to help the people's movement and apply severe pressure on the regime for political change in Burma.
Later, the Burmese protesters joined a peaceful march by Indian politicians led by former Prime Minister I.K Gujral and former Defence Minister George Fernandes, to express solidarity with the people in Burma who are struggling for a change. – Khonumthung.
