Church collapse kills one, injures 15
October 22, 2007 - A church building made of hardwood collapsed killing a woman and injuring 15 when 500 people had congregated for a prayer service in the United Pentecostal Church (UPC) in Chin state, Burma. The incident occurred at around 7:00 pm (Burma Standard Time) on October 14.
The church was located in Thangtlang town in Chin state. The woman who died was identified as Pi Nuhren (75). The 15 injured were admitted to hospital in Hakha town, capital of Chin state.
"It's very likely that the number of people who gathered was much more than the church could accommodate," a local in Thangtlang said.
"Normally, the building could accommodate 400 hundred people," he added.
The UPC held a conference between October 11 and 14. The church building collapsed on the last day.
Ten of the 15 injured people were stated to be in a serious condition. – Khonumthung.
