Merlin distributes anti-mosquito pills in Chin state
October 22, 2007 - As part of its mission to combat malaria Merlin, a non-government organization from UK has been distributing free anti-mosquito pills to people in some areas of Chin state, Burma.
A Merlin group is mainly distributing around 190 anti-mosquito pills known as Super tape in rural areas in Thangtlang Township in Chin state. The campaign began on October 5, said a local in Thangtlang.
"Merlin workers with the help of village headmen distributed the Super tape on the basis of the number of mosquito nets the people use. For instance if a house hold uses three mosquito nets they will get three super tapes," a villager said.
"The anti-mosquito tablet is pressed into powder form. Then it is mixed with water. If we soak the mosquito net in super tape mixed with water, the mosquitoes will not be able to get into the mosquito net," he said.
Merlin launched the health campaign which includes health education and distribution of medicines in economically backward Chin state.
However, how many townships in Chin state, Merlin can cover could not be ascertained.
The Merlin, International Charity group was established in 1993 in Britain. – Khonumthung.
