Over 400 pro-democracy activists and ethnic minorities from Burma marched on the street near Parliament in New Delhi. They expressed deep concern over the fate of the arrested monks locked inside the pagodas and monasteries in Burma.

Some monks and representatives from political parties, women's organization, civil societies and NGOs from India also joined the demonstration to express their solidarity with the protesters in Burma.

"The people of India and my organization will be with the people of Burma who are struggling for democratic change in the country," Ms. Annie Raja from JFIW involved in the rally said.

Former Prime minister I.K Gujral and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) George Fernandes in a press release today urged the people of India to raise their voice and express solidarity with the monks and supporters who are protesting against the regime in Burma.

"The Indian government should put pressure on the Burmese government to act towards restoration of democracy in Burma," Mr. Anil from Samata Party said.

On September 26, Indian External Affair Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that India was concerned with the turmoil in Burma and will keep watching the situation in Burma, after keeping silent for such a long time.

"The regime is killing innocent people with weapons provided by India," U Ohn Maung, Burmese activist who joined the rally in New Delhi alleged.

UN General Secretary's special adviser Mr. Ibrahim Gambari today arrived in Burma to meet junta leaders in Naypidaw, the new administrative capital and will stay for two days amid the violent crackdown by security forces on the ongoing demonstrations in Burma. – Khonumthung.
