"Around 30 members are deployed at night in the block council offices in Hakha watching the movements of people," he also added.
NLD leader U Van Lian also said that he lost contact with NLD headquarters in Rangoon as the junta has cut off the telephone lines in order to restrict them from accessing the foreign and Burmese media in exile.
On September 4, about 25 demonstrators led by NLD members held a peaceful rally in Hakha, demanding the roll back in fuel and essential commodities prices, a halt to municipalities collecting tax from people and privilege at par with government employees in Chin state. The rally followed the series of protests over the fuel price hike in cities across Burma that began on August 19.
The day after the demonstration in Chin state, NLD members were called to the TPDC office in Hakha and told that they could not assemble more than five people.
However, NLD members vowed to continue the protest unless the demands are met by the junta. – Khonumthung.
