Junta goons threaten to arrest supporters of monks
27 September 2007 - Burmese junta sponsored groups, yesterday warned people in Kalay town, Sagaing divison, northwestern Burma not to support the monks in their protests. They threatened that those getting involved in the protests will be dealt with severely.
"At about 9 p.m. yesterday, a group of people from the USDA and Swan-ar-Shin backed by the junta, riding a truck went around the streets of Kalay. Using loudspeakers, they warned locals that those who join the monks will be picked up from their homes," a Kalay local said.
Despite the warning the people are vowing to continue the protest against the junta, another source from Kalay told Khonumthung News.
"If the monks come out on the streets there are a lot people who are ready to join them without fear," he added.
The military junta backed groups went around the streets of Kalay making announcements for about two hours.
The junta's mouthpiece in Burma today described the protesting monks as pirates. – Khonumthung.
