Mass protest in Kalay into fourth day
September 25, 2007 - Over 20,000 of monks, students and people from Kalay town, Sagaing Division in Burma continued their peaceful march to protest against the Burmese junta at 1 a.m. It entered the fourth day today.
Around 20,000 bystanders joined thousands of monks and students who marched and chanted Buddhist prayers on Bogyoke road from Payakyi Pagoda in Shwebontar Quart while heading towards Tahan Quart in Kalay.
Tahan Quart is about four miles from Shwebotar Quart in Kalay.
"The bystanders including elder people also joined monks and students," eyewitness in Kalay said.
Unlike the protest yesterday, students from Government Technical Institute in Kalay also participated in the protest held today.
"While there was no interference from military authorities, I found a truck that was carrying soldiers fully equipped," a local in Kalay said.
Around 30 police personnel from Hakha, capital of Chin state were sent to Kalay in order to strengthen security in Kalay today, according to sources from political circles in Hakha. – Khonumthung.
