Bangladesh authorities postpone the trail of Chin missionary workers
January 26, 2008 - Bangladesh court had postponed the trail date of 14 detained Christian missionary workers from Chin state in Burma to February 6.
On November 28, 2007, Bangladesh authorities arrested 14 Chin Christian missionary workers as some local people complained to local authorities from Rumana village in Bardarban town in Chittagong hill tracts, Bangladesh for distributing Christian Bible tracks (Booklet) in the areas.
The arrested missionary workers from Burma were taken to Bardarban Jail in Bardarban town.
Initially, Bangladesh authorities set the date December 31 to hear Chin missionary workers' case in Bardarban district court. Then, they postponed to February 6.
"Thought we were not given a chance to meet them (detained Chin missionary workers), we heard they all are in healthy", Missionary Program Director T.L Rualawia's wife quoted as saying.
T.L Rualawia made a trip to Bangladesh on the purpose to follow up the case of Chin Christian workers and see the condition of them in Bardarban jail. His trip seems to be unsuccessful as he even did not get a chance to see the detainees.
Carson Baptish Church Youth Ministry in Aizawl, capital of Mizoram state in northeast India sent 14 Chin Christian missionary workers from Burma to Bardarban district in Chittagong hill tract. Missionary workers arrived in Rumana village in Bardarban town on November 19.
Chin Christian missionary workers mainly target its mission to Bawn community in Bardarban district. The people from Bawn tribe use the same language that used by Lai tribe in Chin state from Burma and Mizoram state, northeast India. – Khonumthung.
