Local killed in Chin state, two suspected policemen arrested

February 19, 2008 - Hrangpuia (50) a businessman was murdered and robbed in Falam Township, Chin state in Burma on February 9 at night.

Locals from Falam town found the body of Hrangpuia in the jungle on February 12. The killing took place near Falam – Rid Khua Dar Road, four miles from Falam town.

The unidentified killers were said to have taken Kyat 1,700,000 (US $ 1428) from Hrangpuia's pocket.

So far, the authorities in Falam have arrested two suspected policemen and interrogated them.

Around 9 pm on February 9, Hrangpuia and his son were waiting for a jeep on Falam – Rid Khua Dar Road. The jeep that was coming from Tio river, Indo-Burma border brought packages of Zarda – 92 (Tobacco leaf) for Hrangpuia.

"Hrangpuia and his son made a bonfire by the roadside. Meanwhile, two policemen came and had a conversation with them," said a local from Chin state.

After sometime, his son went at a distance to see if the jeep was coming. When he turned back, he did not see his father and the two policemen at the bonfire site.

Immediately, Hrangpuia's son informed the locals about the sudden disappearance of his father. The locals searched for him for three days.

On February 12, the locals found the body of Hrangpuia in the forest about 100 feet from the place where the bonfire was made.

Hrangpuia's body was taken to the public hospital in Falam town for post-mortem. The doctors found Hrangpuia had suffered severe head and chest injuries, according to a local. 

"There was no one else there except the two policemen. It is possible that the policemen killed and robed Hrangpuia," he alleged.

Meanwhile, the concerned authorities and police are continuing to search for the real culprits.

Hrangpuia from Falam was  in-charge of "Shwe Shindet (Golden Lion)" bus line operating on Kalay-Falam- Rih Khua Dar road. – Khonumthung.
