Bangladesh releases 14 Chin missionary workers

May 17, 2008 - The Bangladesh authorities have finally set free 14 Christian missionary workers from Chin state, Burma after they were detained in jail for over five months.

The 14 missionary workers yesterday arrived in Aizawl, capital of Mizoram state in northeast India.

"Surprisingly, they arrived at the church this morning around 8 am. They are free now because of God's help," Pu Awitea from Carson Baptist Church Youth Ministry based in Aizawl said yesterday.

The Carson Baptist Church Youth Ministry, the church which sent the missionary workers to Bangladesh, held prayer meetings yesterday and praised God for the release of the missionary workers.

On November 28, 2007, Bangladesh police arrested the missionary workers in Rumana village in Bardarban town in Chittagong hill tracts of Bangladesh for distributing bible tracks (in the local language) to locals and sent them to Bandarban jail.

Bangladesh authorities produced the detainees in the Bardarban district court on February 6.The court released them on May 14.

The Carson Baptist Church Youth Ministry sent the missionary workers to Bangladesh to carry out the ministry's work among the 'Bawm' tribal group living in the Chittagong hill tracts of Bangladesh on. Missionary workers arrived in Rumana village in Bardarban town on November 19. – Khonumthung.
